The Institute of Social Sciences consists of the subjects Political Science and Sociology. Eleven departments cover essential areas of both disciplines in teaching and research. Together, the two subjects organize the Bachelor's and Master's degree programs. The Institute is also linked to the interdisciplinary Institute for Migration Research and Intercultural Studies (IMIS) and maintains a wide range of interdisciplinary and institutional contacts with the Center for Democracy and Peace Studies, the Japan Research Center and the Jean Monnet Center of Excellence in European Studies, which is funded by the European Union.
In addition, there are close ties with non-university institutions such as the Osnabrück-based German Foundation for Peace Research.
The Institute is very well networked both nationally and internationally - this applies both to cooperation in research and to cooperation with foreign universities within the framework of exchange programs. The Institute maintains more than 40 Erasmus cooperations alone and has further connections to universities in order to be able to offer its students interesting study places in and outside Europe.
The institute also has a very clear presence on studium.org, a website of the DGS (German Sociological Association). Studium.org is the official search and information portal of German societies. Here you can find the Institute of Social Sciences of the University of Osnabrueck.
